UPDATE: Bumped for next weekend’s UFC.
A quick introduction is in order. As some of you may know, I’ve been looking for other sheet designers to post their work here. It will help give them some exposure while also giving visiting fans more sheet options to choose from instead of having only one choice. Well, I’m happy to announce that we have our first submission and it’s a fantastic design. Some of you may already know Brian from our comments section. Brian’s been one of the original contributing fans here since we started moving along last year and I’m glad to have him here, sharing his designs for all of us to enjoy. Thanks Brian! I can’t wait to finally use a sheet other than my own, and this is the perfect start. So, on to Brian’s first post, in his own words…
UFC 116 Pool Sheet
By Brian Slack
SHEET UPDATED: Leben replaces Wanderlei.
In anticipation of UFC 116, which boasts the biggest (literally) fight in the history of the UFC heavyweight division, the UFC 116 pool sheet is here to download for your viewing parties. Click the image to the right for a larger preview, and click the link below for the full, high-resolution version.
Feel completely free to pass this sheet along to your friends, whether it be in person or online. The more interest these sheets promote in the fights, the better. Plus, a little wagering never hurts in drumming up excitement in the more casual MMA fans.

1. How does it work?
For each fight, circle the name of the fighter you think will win, as well as the round the fight ends, and the method the fight ends with. This sheet doesn’t have the rules listed to the side, so I’ll lay out my interpretation of the game here. Picking the correct fighter is worth 5 points, while a correct method choice is worth 3 points and a correct round choice is worth 2 points. From my experience, I have found it’s best to award points for a correct round and method choice regardless if you pick the correct fighter on that fight. It seems to help endorse participation among the more hesitant viewers among us.
A (T)ko selection for a fight includes the following: TKO, KO and doctor stoppage. A submission includes a tapout, a technical submission (the referee is forced to pull the fighters apart due to a broken limb or someone being rendered unconscious), as well as a corner stoppage (throwing in the towel). Decisions are self explanatory. In the event of a draw, points will only be awarded for the round and method choice, if someone selects decision. In the event of no-contest, only the correct round choice will be awarded points.
Once you’ve made your picks, copy your picks to the strip at the bottom of the sheet and use scissors to cut it off. I’ve designed this as more of a “pick tracker” which lets you follow along with the fights without having to have your sheet in front of you. From experience, this prevents people from constantly asking the person who holds all the sheets to check and see how they did after each fight. Of course, you can also use it to record the actual results of the fights, depending on your preference.
2. How do you print the sheets?
Honestly, these sheets may use a lot of ink. I recommend going economical and printing them with whatever you feel is best. Personally, I print them out on regular printer paper at traditional settings. Kevin has set excellent recommendations on previous sheets, so if you’re used to using those, I see no reason why they wouldn’t work here. But, whatever choice you prefer, it should turn out well since it is a primarily white background.
3. Feedback?
While I am hesitant to provide my e-mail openly over the web, feel free to contact me via Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/SlackBrian.
Fedor lost tonight, and the MMA world has erupted. He lost decisively and he lost in 69 seconds. It’s something to think about. I want to post a few quick thoughts on what this could mean to not just Fedor himself, but the industry in general.
1.) Can you hear Dana all this week during the UFC 116 press conferences and media interviews? How big will his smile be? He has been waiting for this moment for many years. His only sadness will come from the fact that it didn’t happen in the UFC ring. This will be a very interesting week.
2.) Brock is the new #1 Heavyweight in the world, and a possible win next weekend over current #3 ranked Shane Carwin would only solidify it.
3.) If Shane Carwin wins next week, it will cause a very interesting shift in the entire division. Can you imagine? Where would you rank Werdum and Carwin? Brock? Fedor?
4.) Pride is closed. Gone. Fedor’s loss signals the end of that era. He was the last man standing. Somewhere, Gary Millen is crying in a corner, and his cell phone broken on the floor next to him with a cracked screen showing nothing more than a vague text message… “:D”.
5.) M-1 Global put all of their eggs in one basket and now they just watched Werdum egg the shit out of their logo with that basket like a sugar stoned delinquent on Halloween night. The ghost of Seth Petruzelli still haunts Showtime.
6.) Do you think M-1 Global will take the lower offers they’re going to get from the UFC and Strikeforce when it comes time to negotiate, or do they go back to Japan and fight Josh Barnett? Or, does Fedor just retire? And would Dana even make an offer now or is he so burnt by past negotiations that he just doesn’t make one at all? A final insult. M-1 Global lost most of the leverage they had.
7.) The UFC (Zuffa) now have the #1 ranked fighters in each division. They now fully control the MMA landscape. How long can they hang on?
8.) No big money fight with Fedor and Overeem now. The fans, fighters, and the organizations miss out on that one. Bummer.
9.) Where would M-1 Global be had they signed Fedor with the UFC to begin with? They still could have had plenty of advertising all over the place without the co-promotion. They could of received a fortune from sponsors, far more than they made with Strikeforce. The exposure they lost out on is mind numbing. I said it before, and I still believe, that they made a huge error going the route they did by not signing with the UFC to begin with. What say you?
The pool sheet for this coming weekend’s Strikeforce event is now online (hi-res download below). If you wish to see a slightly larger preview, just click the image on the right.
Those of you that have been around for a while will recognize the design as being the same as the last Strikeforce sheet. This really is one of my favorite designs of all time, so why not keep these for the Strikeforce events, at least for now anyways? I know what many of you are probably thinking… If it’s not broke, then fix it until it is. Maybe later.
Having a white background does several cool things. First, it uses much less ink. There is no white ink, so whatever color the paper is, that’s the sheet color. Personally, I like the way these printed on my white card stock. It looked real clean and sharp. If you decide to print on colored card stock paper, I would highly suggest using lighter colors or maybe recycled textured paper. If you use darker colored paper, the print will not show up as well (and besides, it will be harder to see your marks). I did a few test prints on some light orange and blue card stock sheets, as well as some recycled textured sheets, and they still looked fantastic. Much better than I even anticipated.
The “note pad” area is a little smaller in height, but wider over all. Since it’s really just for adding numbers, it shouldn’t be a problem, and with only four guaranteed televised fights anyway, there is not a lot of math to be done.
And please feel free to share this with your friends on other MMA forums and blogs. I know most fans watching this particular event are going to mainly be the hardcore, but the more you share, the more people may get into it and realize there is more than just the UFC.
Now, to answer some of your questions regarding the pool sheets.

1.) How does it work?
Simple. You just circle the fighter’s name you think is going to win, then circle the round and method (or just mark on it some way, get creative). Don’t forget to fill in your name at the top left. Then using scissors, cut on the dotted line and carry the tab with you to fill in the actual results as the fights happen. When it’s done, take your tab back and compare it to your picks.
2.) What are the game rules? How do you score the card?
The rules and points are printed on each card.
3.) How do I print it? What are the best printer settings?
When I print them on my Epson, I set it for US Letter (No Borders). I also select “scale to media“. The best paper to use is card stock, and they look really great when they’re done.
Of course, you don’t have to go through that. You can just send them to print and it should look great, even if you have borders. I just prefer no borders because it looks more professional.
You will notice it prints a little light. That’s on purpose, for several reasons:
1.) It doesn’t use as much ink, saving you money on cartridges.
2.) It prints quicker, so you’re not waiting as long. Time is money.
3.) Most importantly, it allows you to see any selections made with a highlighter or circles made with a pencil or pen. Just makes it all around easier to see your picks.
And please, before printing out a bunch of these, check for typos. I’m not perfect and miss things all the time. So maybe print one, look it over, and continue with the rest if it all looks good. If you do find a typo, read #6 below on how to contact me (or just leave a message here on this post). I will work very fast to correct it.
4.) Are you going to make these for other events too besides just the UFC?
Sometimes, but it really just depends. The problem with many other promotions is they just can’t seem to get their shit together. They either announce cards really late or the card is constantly changing. The UFC doesn’t have these problems nearly as much so I don’t have to do much editing when they do change. But if there is enough of a request, I will certainly do so.
5.) Do you design other stuff? How much do you charge?
I love designing promotional posters and fliers for all kinds of fight related events. I am currently working for the TV industry, but I would love to do some work for anyone that needs some design done for their promotion or event. Pricing is negotiable, just ask and we’ll get something worked out.
6.) Feedback?
If you have any suggestions or notice anything like a typo or incorrect fighters record, please feel free to let me know. You can also just post a comment here if you don’t want to email me directly. I will try to adapt these as time goes on to your requests and needs. Without any feedback, I wont know what to correct for you.

I know this one is posted a little late, but the full time gig has me slammed right now. I’m really surprised I had enough energy and creative juice left to put one together in time for the event tomorrow night.
Please feel free to share this with your friends on the different MMA forums or twitter or facebook or whatever! It can make the fights much more interesting, since everyone who fills one out will be invested in the outcomes of each fight. Also, it helps others who may be new (or casual fans) get to learn some of the other fighters names they may not of known or cared about before.

This sheet has actually been ready for a couple of days but because I’m on the road I haven’t been able to test print it. The reason that’s important is because this particular design has a darker background than I usually like to have. So instead of waiting a couple of more days for the final print ready design, I figured I would put it up now so you guys can give it a try. However, don’t go printing a bunch right this minute because as we all know, the card could change. Wait until the week of the fight before going crazy. Also, when I get home later this weekend, I will test print it on my equipment and make any changes that may be needed to the layout. So make sure you come back Sunday evening for the final print design at it’s best.

What is left out there right now for Floyd Mayweather other than Manny Pacquiao? After tonights performance by Mayweather and Pacquiao’s last outing against Clottey, did they actually create even more of a buzz for their potential fight or did they damage what was built up last year? I’m in the camp of believing they built it up. And I also believe there is no other fight for Floyd right now. Nothing. This is the fight that has to happen.
For Mosley, what is next? Does he retire? He probably should, but I could also see him fighting one or two more times before then. The first couple of rounds were his. That second round looked like he was about to shock the world. But after that round, it all changed. Now, I need to go back and watch the fight a second time before being certain about this, but I think even though Mosley hurt Floyd in the second round and clearly won it, he was tagged right at the end of that round and that may have set the tone for the third round and on. Like I said, I want to go back and watch it again, but that’s my initial impression after watching the fight live. It appeared there was a small exchange that kind of got Mosley’s attention and made him a bit gun shy coming into the third.
All in all, it was an interesting fight that started out great. We were screaming here for the first couple of rounds, however, it quickly turned into an average fight that left us wanting just a bit more. Even though Mayweather was more aggressive this time out, the fight went to a decision in a slow fashion. I think if Mayweather brought it on just a tad more in those later rounds he could of finished it. Don’t get me wrong though because it was truly a masterful performance by Floyd. He was hurt early and yet still came back to dominate the rest of the fight, decisively.
Reminder? Mayweather is fighting, who needs a reminder? For those of you that have been hiding out from the cops in a drainage pipe, tomorrow night Floyd Mayweather is fighting Shane Mosley. The PPV starts at 9 P.M. EST. I would really like to see Mosley knock Mayweather out but, my money is on Floyd by decision. Friends, beer, pizza, big fight, good times! More videos after the jump.
