Thoughts on the Stupid Hulk Tournament
Well, if the match making and the marketing for the Super Hulk Tournament didn’t prove that the event was a bit of a farce, then the execution and result should of drove that point home. It was exactly as advertised, ridiculous and entertaining. The Minowa/Sapp fight came off scripted, as did Sokoudjou’s late peppering of Jan “The Giant” after the ref tried to call the fight. As for Choi’s fight with washed up baseball star Jose Conseco, it was a complete joke. But who was really expecting anything more? That being said, the rest of the event was decent and had some quality matchups as it was the continuation of the Featherweight GP. The upset of the night had to be “Kid” getting decisioned by Joe Warren (who?) in a fight that was close and had some good moments. Neither guy seemed to truly dominate, but I felt Joe was more aggressive and was able control where the fight went most of the time. And to think, Kid was given a free shot to the second round and an opponent he was expected to beat. How will this be interpreted by the MMA media here in the states? Will they even care? Should they? The main event featuring (MTV’s Bully Beatdown host) Jason “Mayhem” Miller versus Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza was a rematch that ended up being a huge buzz kill. Shit happens sometimes, and in MMA we all know it’s coming. They will now have to meet again after the fight was stopped because of a cut received by Souza from an illegal kick to the head courtesy of Mayhem. Overall, the event was average and worth checking out but I’m still left wanting.

I miss the salad days of japanese mma too man. I think “left wanting” was a good way to sum up the event.

That show SUCKED because it was the most boring crap Ive even seen. I nver understand all the love for Pride adn that japanese garbage they never have fights that make any sense outside of the japnese fan base. The UFC would never put on fights like that because they make no sense for the divisions and thier fan base is much wider than just the USA. If japan is so great why did they book Conseco? Hes not a professional fighter. Not even amatuer. The UFC would NEVER attempt such a dumb thing. They would be ridiculed by letimate sports media like ESPN. NOBODY would take them seriously. And then add Minowas fighting Bob Sapp? Please dont try to pass that garbage off as the best because it only makes you look stupd.
