Dana White is Over Fedor

Props to MMA-Videos on twitter who just posted a link to this quick snip from ncaasteve:

I think most of the fans understand exactly how frustrated Dana feels here. After all, Dana is a hardcore fan too.  It’s hard to blame him or the UFC anymore for Fedor not signing.  I think it’s on Vadim and M-1 Global now.  Hopefully the press will hound them over the next couple of years like they have Dana and Lorenzo. Maybe it will force M-1 to make sacrifices next time and come to the table, much like it did the UFC this time.

Fedor’s Press Conference: The Aftermath

Well, it’s looking more and more like I should of put money down on Fedor’s future.  This guy doesn’t want to fight in the UFC, even though, in multiple online polls, it shows most of his fans want him to fight there.  Sorry fans, but he nor M-1 care enough to make it happen.

When Affliction folded, I swear, it was like turning on the lights and watching the roaches (Vadim and company) scurry, looking for shelter from the big bad ass in the room (UFC) who just cornered them.  Seriously, the UFC just backed Fedor and M-1 into a corner here.  The UFC’s power with the mainstream media is forcing Vadim to explain to the press and the fans, why Fedor, the best heavyweight fighter on the planet, is refusing to test himself in the best organization on the planet by fighting the others in his division who currently are considered his best opponents.  The UFC knew that their explanation was going to look as ridiculous to the fans and the media as it does to them.  Dana and the UFC have taken a lot of heat over the past couple of years about not being able to sign Fedor, so they set out to prove it’s not them, that it’s actually Fedor and Vadim who don’t want to fight.  But Vadim and Millen fired back by announcing Fedor was the coverboy for EA’s upcoming MMA game.  A public jab aimed directly at Dana.  And it wasn’t their first this week, just look at some of the other quotes coming from Vadim and Fedor over the past couple of days and you can see their intentions clearly.  It appears that they were never going to work with the UFC, which is what I said all along.  And it also looks like they used the media the UFC was aiming at them, but not wisely.  I think M-1 is making the same mistake that all the others have by directly calling out the big dog and going up against the UFC right out of the gate… and using Fedor as your main draw.  Both have been fatal mistakes for several organizations looking to gain ground.

By Fedor not taking what will surely be one of the best deals (if not the best) ever offered in MMA to a fighter (sorry M-1, it was for Fedor, it’s a fighters contract), his reputation, as well as his managements reputation has been damaged.  What could any competitors excuse be for not stepping up to the plate to challenge yourself against what is widely regarded as your toughest challenge?  Especially with an offer like that backing it?  It’s the general consensus, by most of the MMA media and fans, that he is the best.  Jerry Millen and Vadim often state the same thing, that everyone says he’s the best.  Well, it’s also the general consensus that his best tests today are in the UFC.  If Vadim, Millen, and the fans accept the first consensus, then what is their excuse for not accepting the second?  Because the UFC wont help promote a rival organization?  Fucking weak and pathetic excuse.

Fedor’s stock has peaked this weak.  If it’s made official that he hasn’t signed, his stock will begin to fall.  He will never get an offer as good as the one the UFC made.  Never.  Even the UFC won’t match it again.  And his M-1 won’t even come close.  Nobody in MMA will be able to make him as famous or make him as much money as he would of made with the UFC and their sponsors.  Vadim and M-1 are looking like total fools here.  Big time.  This will go down in history as one of the biggest blunders by an MMA manager ever.  Bigger than Monty Cox deciding it would be a good idea to ruin Tim’s career by using an old retired boxing legend in an outlaw state.  Look, Fedor will find it difficult to retain his rank and status outside the UFC in the current atmosphere.  Dana and company know this.  They now have Brock, who is not only a top PPV draw, but most likely going to overtake Fedor in the next year as the top ranked heavyweight in the world.  That is a game changer.

If Vadim was smart, he would of made Fedor a star using the UFC.  He could of worked out a deal like no other fighter could of got, then leave with a famous fighter the UFC hype machine created for him.  Then maybe, he would actually have a chance at building his M-1 organization by using Fedor after the hype train started rolling, instead of falling victim like Affliction and Bodog did with Fedor as he stands now.  I seriously doubt he could actually do that, since building off of one fighter has been a proven failure in the past, but if you’re going to try it, might as well do it right.  Vadim could possibly have a better chance of gaining the money and fame he needs to build M-1.  Why else would Vadim want to co-promote?  To fail?  Of course not.  He wants to co-promote because he wants his organization to make money and be successful, his M-1 fighters to be famous and earning money, it’s a business.  But then they try to tell the press it’s not about the money… go figure.  Dumb asses.  Doesn’t surprise me at all.  That’s just an excuse to distract from the obvious fact that it’s a dumb decision on their part.  It’s really starting to look as if Vadim and company are running scared (roaches?).

If Fedor accepted the offer, he would of made a lot of money that he could of shared with his M-1 friends.  I really believe he doesn’t understand just how much money that actually is and exactly how much exposure he would of got.  The UFC is it and if they’re offering you that much, you better believe they will promote your ass to the top of the world.  And If Fedor lost in the UFC, no big deal because the deal was done and he’s been turned into a star with a lot of money to help out M-1.  Look at all the fighters in the UFC who have lost a fight but still have more drawing power than Fedor does today, all because of the UFC hypemachine.  But now, by not signing and directly challenging the UFC, Fedor and Vadim both lose.  And look at the risk they’re left with, if Fedor loses outside the UFC, his stock will crash.  It will bomb much more than it would of had he signed and lost in the UFC.  Not to mention, they’re just not going to get the money and exposure they could of got, had they just worked with the UFC first before starting all this shit.  Damn that’s just… crazy?

When Fedor gets beat in some rinky dink organization, he will be wishing he had taken that UFC offer.  After that, he would be lucky to get half of what he was offered by them this week, if anything at all.  Hell, Fedor should pray he doesn’t go out there and get his ass handed to him by one of his managements preselected opponents (Sylvia/Mercer anyone?).  It would be curtains for Vadims meal ticket.  And that dumb ass Jerry Millen would have to get a real job to fail at.  Yeah I know, Fedor’s track record tells us differently.  But I also know the sports history, and it’s shown us on many occasions, anything can happen.  Hell, Fedor could sign with the UFC tomorrow and I will look like the giant jackass that I truly am.  Business as usual.

What Will Fedor and Vadim Say Tomorrow?

Tomorrow is Fedor’s big day.  It’s the day that he and the rest of the M-1 crew will let the hardcore fans and media know where they currently stand in the ever changing MMA landscape.  What’s interesting here is that this press conference was announced yesterday (Monday).  Affliction closed shop on Friday, and they announce just two days later that they will have a press conference?  To me, it almost seems as if they knew then, what they were going to do all along, regardless of any offers from the UFC or any other promotion.

Earlier this evening we had a report from the LA Times saying:

“A long-awaited agreement between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the man considered the world’s best mixed martial arts fighter, Fedor Emelianenko, is expected to be announced by UFC President Dana White on Friday, a source with information about the negotiations told The Times today.”

And then just a few hours later, Josh Gross over at Sports Illustrated had this to say:

Emelianenko and the Ultimate Fighting Championship are not close to finalizing a deal that would bring mixed martial arts’ top heavyweight in the Octagon.

“I can give you a guarantee it’s not accurate,” said Apy Echteld of M-1 Global, a St. Petersburg, Russia-based promotion and management company of which Emelianenko is an equity stakeholder.

So the fans and media are thoroughly confused.  I still predict that Fedor fights for M-1.  Everyone that knows me, knows where I stand here.  I think M-1 Global knew this all along.  They knew what they were going to do after their days with Affliction were done, that’s why they scheduled an early conference.  I pray and wish and hope that I am wrong.

The only other thing I see Fedor and M-1 announcing tomorrow if it’s not about him fighting for M-1, then it will be them just giving an update by saying something about how they’re currently talking with several promotions and will have an answer by… (fill in the date).  It would be an attempt to put pressure on the UFC deal in negotiation.

Fedor Will Not Fight in the UFC

I highly doubt we will see Fedor fighting in the UFC.  I gave my position on this subject several days ago before everything unfolded.  And now, most of the MMA blogs and media are running a story about Fedor’s management saying there is now a possibility of working with the UFC.  But at the end of each of these stories is a quote from Vadim Finkelchtein saying:

“We want to talk to the UFC about having Fedor compete against some of their fighters, but only within the framework of co-promotional efforts with M-1 Global.”

The part that says “…but only within the framework of co-promotional efforts with M-1…” is the nail in the coffin.  That’s the deal breaker, right there.  They want to add their name into UFC events.  Well I have a message for M-1:

I don’t want to see M-1 fight in the UFC, I want to see Fedor fight in the UFC.  Fuck off M-1.  That’s right, I want Fedor in the UFC and not you fuck heads.  I don’t care if I see your stupid logo or not while I watch Fedor fight.  I could give a shit less what happens with M-1.  The name M-1 doesn’t mean shit to me as a fan right now.  If it had a meaning, it would mean “fuck ups ruining shit”.  That’s all I see it as.  If I want M-1, I watch it on HD Net (when I had HD Net).  Fuck off.

From now on, whenever I see an M-1 Global logo attached to someone elses name, I know those people are morons for allowing M-1 to leech off their hard work.  The M-1 Global logo is becoming a badge of stupidity.  Think about it.

I would love to be wrong here, but I just don’t see the UFC working with guys like this.  I don’t blame the UFC.  Vadim and M-1 don’t exactly have a strong track record (Bodogfight, Affliction – both gone).  What did M-1 lose there?  To the common eye, it would appear that they reap all the benefits with very little risk on their part.  MMA companies keep trying to use Fedor to make money, but the only ones cashing in are M-1.  Everyone else goes under.  Seriously, it’s like a leech sucking an animal dry and moving on.  And from the way things are starting to look on the forums, Vadim and his crazy russian team are wearing thin on people.  Many are starting to look at them as the problem here, not Fedor or the UFC.

Affliction a UFC Sponsor Again

At least that is what Kevin Iole is reporting over at Yahoo Sports.  He says, and I quote:

Later on Friday, Affliction opted to get out of the promoting business and, in a joint statement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, announced it would become a sponsor of the UFC. The fate of the fighters under contract with Affliction is not known yet.

What?  Where is this joint statement?  I can’t find it anywhere.  This just doesn’t seem possible, but if it’s true, then… wow.  It instantly reminded me of the Vitor Belfort clip that was accidently shown on SpikeTV, with Dana White talking him up.  Did they know something back then?  Was it already negotiated and almost leaked that night by accident?  Something is happening here.  I can’t wait to see how this plays out, and it seems to be going pretty fast.
