What Will Fedor and Vadim Say Tomorrow?

Tomorrow is Fedor’s big day.  It’s the day that he and the rest of the M-1 crew will let the hardcore fans and media know where they currently stand in the ever changing MMA landscape.  What’s interesting here is that this press conference was announced yesterday (Monday).  Affliction closed shop on Friday, and they announce just two days later that they will have a press conference?  To me, it almost seems as if they knew then, what they were going to do all along, regardless of any offers from the UFC or any other promotion.

Earlier this evening we had a report from the LA Times saying:

“A long-awaited agreement between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the man considered the world’s best mixed martial arts fighter, Fedor Emelianenko, is expected to be announced by UFC President Dana White on Friday, a source with information about the negotiations told The Times today.”

And then just a few hours later, Josh Gross over at Sports Illustrated had this to say:

Emelianenko and the Ultimate Fighting Championship are not close to finalizing a deal that would bring mixed martial arts’ top heavyweight in the Octagon.

“I can give you a guarantee it’s not accurate,” said Apy Echteld of M-1 Global, a St. Petersburg, Russia-based promotion and management company of which Emelianenko is an equity stakeholder.

So the fans and media are thoroughly confused.  I still predict that Fedor fights for M-1.  Everyone that knows me, knows where I stand here.  I think M-1 Global knew this all along.  They knew what they were going to do after their days with Affliction were done, that’s why they scheduled an early conference.  I pray and wish and hope that I am wrong.

The only other thing I see Fedor and M-1 announcing tomorrow if it’s not about him fighting for M-1, then it will be them just giving an update by saying something about how they’re currently talking with several promotions and will have an answer by… (fill in the date).  It would be an attempt to put pressure on the UFC deal in negotiation.

WTF? You wake up and bleary eyed from playing xbox 360 till 4am and the whole Fedor saga is still whirling its way down the rabbit hole!

You know Kevin like you I would probably sacrifice my beloved dogs unborn puppies to see comrade Fedor fight Brockney, but I do have to wonder about this one…Who was this secret source? Was it the little old Mexican cleaning lady who cleans the hotel conference rooms after everyone leaves, the bellboy or Vadim’s secret lover Justin?

I really don’t know…I tend to side with your view here that M1 are in the prime position to mess the whole deal with their insistence to ride off the back of everyone else.

I kind of see M-1 like the nightclub tug boat…The tug boat is the really hot looking chick, but she has this obese ugly ‘friend’ with a nasty attitude who she ‘tow’s’ round the club securely right behind her with locked hands. Any chance of getting with the hot chick is royally fucked up by her friend who eyes you with the same jealousy as another male suitor.

Great site – got your feed as I really get a laugh out of what you write and thanks for mentioning my site too.

Luke! LOL at the tug boat analogy! Excellent comparison man, if I had money I would pay you to write here.

Now look at todays news man, what a mess this is turning out to be. I’ve been saying it since Josh tested positive, Fedor is going to be fighting for M-1. I still hope I’m wrong and something happens between now and UFC’s conference on Friday. I truly believe this is Fedor’s peak, as far a value to the UFC goes. Brock will be the #1 ranked guy before too long, and Dana and company know this, which will bring down the hounding for Fedor in the UFC. And chances are that Fedor will eventually lose. And him losing outside the UFC will just about kill most of the chatter. It will be more of a low mumble, from some die-hard, abused fans.
