Dana White Talks UFC 102 Results

Props to… Sherdog? Wow, Sherdog interviewing Dana White again, finally. It’s been a long time coming. Also, Cyberplex on YouTube.

Some Quick Thoughts on UFC 102

UFC 102 is done.  It was one of the best events this year.  The fighters gave us almost everything a fan asks for in a perfect event.  Highlight reel KO’s, brutal submissions, and back and forth wars.  Our house was rioting with noise at numerous points during the fights.  Of course, having a cool pool sheet to add to our interest in the fights always helps (I also find it helps some people who are casual fans learn a little bit more about the fighters/sport).  So here are some of my thoughts in the usual, random ordered way I present them here at justbleed.com:

1.) Neither Couture or Nogueira are done.  If their war last night said anything, it was that these two still have the ability and skills to compete.  They still have that fire.  So much fire that it earned them Fight of the Night bonuses ($60,000 each).  It was an epic fight, with some huge moments that will surely go down as one of the best fights this year.  I don’t know if it’s ‘Fight of the Year’ worthy, but it’s close and should be in the running.  Also, the skill that was on display during this fight was insane.  But what else is there when you put two legends in the sport together in a fight, right?  It was a display of boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, muay thai, all of it executed throughout the fight, back and forth.  A great example to show new fans what Mixed Martial Arts is.  This could be one of those fights.  And how awesome is Nogueira?  The guy literally won over the upset fans in his post-fight interview with his understanding of their boo’s because of their love for ‘Handy’.  The guy is all class and any fan of Randy could also be a fan of Nogueira.

2.) How many of you made money on Big Nog and Thiago Silva last night? Awww yeah.

3.) Thiago Silva went into this fight as the underdog, and I loved it.  I think he did exactly what he needed to do last night to move forward and most importantly, stay in the minds of the fans.  His ability to stay calm when Jardine pressed forward with his wildly awkward punching style was impressive.  He just stood there and countered beautifully to drop Jardine, and took advantage of it from there by finishing it up with some heavy striking above a broken Jardine.  He wasn’t as comfortable and Anderson Silva is (few are), but he wasn’t nerved and it’s that calm demeanor that brings him through when it’s needed.

4.) Todd Duffee.  He has a lot of double letters in his name.  He also displayed the reason why there is a lot of hype coming in with his UFC debut.  A mean, record setting seven second KO was a big warning sign to his next opponent.  I’m looking forward to see who the UFC puts him up against next.  I thought he was going to get the KO of the night bonuse, but he didn’t.  However, I’m willing to bet Dana still ponied up some ‘locker room bonus’ cash for him.

5.) Nate Marquardt’s destruction of Demian Maia was short and sweet and earned him KO of the night bonus ($60,000).  I picked Nate to win and thought it would be his stand-up that got him the victory, but not that quickly and easily.  Brutal KO, it will be another highlight reel moment for the UFC to use over and over for the next couple of years.

6.) Leben was beat up by Jake Rosholt.  Jake eventually choked Leben out, leaving him convulsing on the floor and Joe Rogan saying, “Look at his legs shaking“.  Apparently it was another vicious moment for some squeamish new fans in the press. Another loss in the UFC has me wondering what’s next for Chris Leben?

7.) I’m not going to say much about the only fight that bored me (Vera/Soszynski).  I’m not wasting anymore time on it than I already have by typing out these two sentences.

8.)  Overall, this UFC was great.  We loved it here and a good time was had by all in attendance.  I think this event opens the doors to some interesting fights in the future for all the winners and even some of the losers.  Dana may not be happy with the overall event, but the fans here were,  so I imagine the majority of fans elsewhere loved it too, even if Captain America didn’t get the win.  I think the event earned a solid 8 or 9 out of 10.

Nogueira and Couture talk about their fight

“For sure, that fight was one of the most important fight(s) of my life,” said Nogueira. “It wasn’t a title shot, but it was a fight against one of my heroes, a legend in the sport.”Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

“I’m pretty rational about the performance,” said Couture, who signed a new six-fight deal with the promotion Saturday. “I clearly thought he’d won all three rounds. He knocked me on my keester in at least two of the rounds and had mount a couple of times. He definitely won the fight.”- Randy Couture

UFC 102 Pool Sheet Download

UPDATED 8/28 - Bumped up one last time for tomorrow night!
UPDATED 8/22
- I bumped this post to the top for next weeks UFC 102 event.

So I promised you guys something cool in my last post because I’ve been slacking on my site recently (full time job is demanding for the moment).  Well, here it is, a kick ass UFC 102 pool sheet designed by yours truly.  I make these for our events here at the house on fight nights and our friends really dig them, so I thought it would be cool to start sharing them with you guys too.  I wish I could design fight related stuff all day instead of what I’m designing now.  And don’t worry, I will be back in full swing on the site soon enough.

I’m going to start posting these for all the UFC events.  A new design for each event, all for you to use and enjoy with your friends.  Now, to answer some of your questions regarding the pool sheets.

Download the hi-res sheet: Just Click Here

1.) How does it work?

Simple.  You just circle the fighter’s name you think is going to win, then circle the round and method.  Don’t forget to fill in your name at the top.  Then using scissors, cut on the dotted line and carry the tab with you to fill in the actual results as the fights happen.  When it’s done, take your tab back and compare it to your picks.

2.) What are the game rules? How do you score the card?

The rules and points are printed on each card.

3.) How do I print it?  What are the best printer settings?

When I print them on my Epson, I set it for US Letter (No Borders).  I also select “scale to media” and set the image to about 103% or 104% larger. The best paper to use is card stock, and they look really great when they’re done.

Of course, you don’t have to go through that.  You can just send them to print and it should look great, even if you have borders.  I just prefer no borders because it looks more professional.

You will notice it prints a little light.  That’s on purpose, for several reasons:

1.) It doesn’t use as much ink, saving you money on cartridges.
2.) It prints quicker, so you’re not waiting as long.  Time is money.
3.) Most importantly, it allows you to see any selections made with a highlighter or circles made with a pencil or pen.  Just makes it all around easier to see your picks.

4.) Are you going to make these for other events too besides just the UFC?

Sometimes, but it really just depends.  The problem with  many other promotions is they just can’t seem to get their shit together.  They either announce cards really late or the card is constantly changing.  The UFC doesn’t have these problems nearly as much so I don’t have to do much editing when they do change.  But if there is enough of a request, I will certainly do so.

5.) Do you design other stuff?  How much do you charge?

I love designing promotional posters and fliers for all kinds of fight related events.  I am currently working for the TV industry, but I would love to do some work for anyone that needs some design done for their promotion or event.  Pricing is negotiable, just ask and we’ll get something worked out.

6.) Feedback?

If you have any suggestions or notice anything like a typo, please  feel free to let me know.  I will try to adapt these as time goes on to your requests and needs.  Without any feedback, I wont know what to correct for you.

Gina Carano comments on her loss

I wanted to take time to collect my thoughts and speak from the heart rather than spew out some cliché anecdote about a tough loss. I know I am a better fighter than the way I performed that night and was heartbroken to not give more to those who have been inspired. However, I find some relief in knowing that this has never been only about me, and now more than ever I feel freedom to learn and grow at my own pace. I make it a point to constantly remind myself throughout this journey who I am, what I am doing, and why. Life is the most amazing gift and I want to live it for the right reasons. To my family, coaches, management… thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me, loving and encouraging me. Also a special thanks to the fans who support me from their computers at home, watch me on television and scream for me in the stadiums. Because of you, barriers have been broken down and you have inspired me to believe in a larger dream. Congratulations to Cris Cyborg and the women of MMA who have a great platform to shine. I am more excited than ever for female fighters and this amazing sport which has transformed my life. God Bless.

Randy Couture is ready for a fight

Brett Rogers to face off against Fedor?

Scott Coker announced today that they will put up Brett Rogers (10-0) to represent them against M-1 Global’s Fedor Emelianenko (30-1), the number 1 ranked MMA heavyweight in the world.  I really like this fight.  If you think about it, it’s the same as Shane Carwin (11-0) fighting the UFC heavyweight champ, Brock Lesnar (4-1).  Both Rogers and Carwin are decent opponents and both have been certified worthy of their shots.  Sure, they could use some more experience, but they also could say they’ve earned their shots with their impressive winning streaks.  They both have more experience than Brock (I’m not saying they could beat him, just saying more experience). Look, when Fedor got his title shot in Pride, he was 12-1, with only 2 fights in Pride (wins over Schilt and Herring).  So, if anyone thinks either Brett or Shane haven’t earned their shots at Fedor and Brock, they’re just flat out wrong.  Nothing else needs to be said.  And besides, it’s not often in MMA we get to see two highly ranked heavyweights, with undefeated records, fighting for the belts in the two premier North American MMA organizations.  Enjoy it, man.

Rogers is a decent fighter, and he has his chance now to really show the MMA world exactly what he’s capable of.  Can he step up?  I’m looking forward to finding out.  Sure, Fedor fighting Lesnar or Couture would of been much more fun, but this is still a really interesting fight.  I actually like this fight better than any other match up they could of put on at the moment (which is pretty limited).  I even like this fight better than the one with Josh Barnett (as I said months ago before that fight was canceled).  There are some risks here that Strikeforce is taking, much like the UFC is with Shane possibly beating Lesnar.  Just imagine for a moment if Brett and Shane both pull off the upsets, what that will do to the rankings and the organizations themselves.  It’s crazy.  It’s also a very real scenario.  I would almost like to see it, just so I can say I was there when the shit hit the fan.  I haven’t fully decided yet on who I think will win these fights, but obviously nobody would be surprised if Fedor and Lesnar remain champions when the dust settles.

So let’s all shut up and enjoy the upcoming fights.  Live in the moment and enjoy what we have because, it’s damn good and will be a lot of fun.  Where will you be when Fedor and Lesnar get KTFO?  I’m not going to miss either one of these killer match ups.

My UFC 106 Poster Design

My UFC 106 Poster DesignUPDATED 9/27: Just added a third design, click here.
UPDATE: I have a new 106 poster design, click here

About a week and a half ago, I was pimping myself out for design work in the MMA/Boxing world.  Well, I thought I should mock up a nice UFC poster as an example of what I’m capable of.  Here is my design for the UFC 106 event, Lesnar vs. Carwin.  It’s not an official UFC poster, it’s just an example of what I could do for your promotion (or fight wear company, or whatever).  This design is all mine, except the photographs.  Unfortunately, I had to use some images of Brock and Shane that I found on the internet, as I don’t have any of my own.  That explains why Shane has no gloves on.  I would of did things a little different if I could of had my own photos, such as a full body staredown, to really drive home the point of these guys being true heavyweights.  But for what I had available, I think the design is still pretty damn good.  Now, just imagine what I could do for you.

A design like this, for you, would cost about $500.00.  I could have it to you in about a day, maybe two at the most.  I require a %50 down payment to get started, the rest on completion, but only if you’re satisfied with my design.  If not, you don’t pay and we both walk away with something.  But I promise you, you will like what you see.  Now that is great value for your dollar, wouldn’t you say?  In this economy, you can beat it.  Great design, in a short time, for a great price.  That is truly smart.  So what are you waiting for, contact me now by clicking here and get started with a professional design at a value price.
